Discussion about living conditions for delivery services in Berlin
Awareness of precarious working conditions for delivery services in Berlin strengthen
The discussion about the working conditions of delivery service employees is becoming increasingly important. In Berlin, a city that is known for its lively culinary deliberation, the riders of food and food delivery services from the cityscape have become an integral part of the cityscape. On September 19, 2024, an information and discussion event will take place in the former Kreuzberg town hall to make these challenges visible and to develop solutions together
The event, which is opened by Oliver Nöll, the deputy district mayor, is dedicated to precarious employment in platform economy and the associated risks. Nöll expresses in his statement: "It is important that we do not ignore these problems and work as a community to protect the rights of our employees."
A central point of the discussion will be the expertise of Annekathrin Müller from Work design GmbH. It will go into the results of the Joboption Berlin project and, above all, examine the situation of the mostly migrant delivery employees. Müller emphasizes that many of these employees have to suffer from unfair working conditions. Bad layer divisions and the lack of appropriate work equipment are just a few of the problems with which they are faced with daily.
A meeting of those affected, works councils and unions should discuss upcoming challenges and support channels at the district level. From wage theft to reserved employee rights - the event will serve as a platform to bring these critical topics up.
The invitation is also expressly aimed at the riders themselves. Your contribution is required because personal experiences and suggestions are crucial to find effective solutions. In addition, the Berlin advisory center for migration and good work (BEMA) will offer initial consultation on site, which should give the participants additional orientation.
- when? Thursday, September 19, 2024, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- where? former Rathaus Kreuzberg, Yorckstr. 4-11, 10969 Berlin (former canteen, new building, 10th floor)
This event is not only important for those directly affected, but also has greater importance for society as a whole. By drawing attention to the grievances in the area of delivery services, awareness can be created that could possibly lead to political changes. Only through an informed and committed community can the working conditions in this emerging industry be improved.
