Nationwide campaign day: Rome on the International Day of Rome*Nja in Berlin
On April 8, 2024, the 53rd International Day of Rome*Nja is celebrated. On this occasion, the flag of the Rome*Nja is raised in Berlin on all town halls in order to set a sign of respect and equality. In Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, the flags are hoisted in front of the company buildings in Frankfurter Allee, Petersburger Straße and Yorckstrasse. District Mayor Clara Herrmann invites all interested parties to take part in the flag rectification at 9 a.m. in front of the town hall in Frankfurter Allee.
This day of action is the goal of the discrimination and persecution of Rome*Nja worldwide. It is reminiscent of the first international Rome*NJA Congress of April 8, 1971 in London, which expressed the pursuit of social justice and equality. This was founded by an international association of Rome*Nja with its own hymn, a flag and a self -designation.
In addition, the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district takes part in the Berlin-wide knowledge campaign "Roma Day 24", which will take place for the first time in 2024. Schools are encouraged to include the topic "History and Present of Rome*Nja and Sinti*Zze in Berlin and Germany" from April 8th to April 11th in order to convey knowledge about this recognized minority and to fight against racism. For this purpose, teaching materials are provided and further training for teachers are offered.
The International Day of Rome*Nja is of great historical importance because it draws attention to the long history of discrimination and persecution of this minority. In Germany, the Rome*Nja have suffered from prejudices and stereotypes for a long time and still fight for equality and recognition.
In the following table there are some facts about the Rome*Nja:

| ————————— | --——————————— |
