Design of Berlin crossing areas for more traffic safety and promotion of foot traffic
From mid-November to mid-December, the street and green space office is planning comprehensive renovation work at various intersections in Berlin to improve traffic safety and to promote walking. Among other things, markings are to be applied, the wheelbarrow and e-scooter parking spaces are to be installed and bollards are to be set up in order to prevent parking of motor vehicles in the node area and to free the sidewalks of incorrectly parked bicycles. The crossing areas for pedestrians are also preferred to reduce the crossing distance and by narrowing the road, the vehicle traffic should adhere to the speed limit.
The affected intersections are located in the streets of Köthener Straße/Bernburger Straße, Köpenicker Straße/Eisenbahnstraße, Markgrafenstraße/Besselstraße, Ritterstraße/Bergfriedstraße and Ebelingstraße/Ebertystraße. The intersections Dolziger Straße/Pettenkofer Straße and Wühlischstraße/Boxhagener Straße have already been completed
local effects
The planned renovation work at the Berlin crossings is expected to lead to temporary traffic disruptions in the affected areas. Residents and road users have to expect changed traffic tours, possible detours and longer travel times. In addition, the construction work and the associated construction sites can lead to an impairment of the quality of life of the residents.
