Audre Lorde Photo exhibition in the FHXB Museum: The Berlin Years

The FHXB Museum in Berlin will present the photo exhibition "Audre Lorde-The Berlin Years" on the occasion of the upcoming street renaming according to the Afro-American, lesbian poet and activist Audre Geraldine Lorde (1934–1992). The exhibition was originally seen at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North America Studies at the Free University of Berlin in 2014-2015, where Audre Lorde held a visiting professorship in 1984. The pictures of Dagmar Schultz show Audre Lorde at various locations in and outside of Berlin, both in private moments and in their socio -political engagement. The opening of the exhibition will take place on February 19, 2024 at 6 p.m. in the FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum, which is located on Adalbertstraße 95a, 10999 Berlin-Kreuzberg.

Audre Lorde was an important figure in the black women* movement that campaigned for the rights of black women* and against homophobia, sexism and racism. Between 1984 and 1992 she spent a lot of time in West Berlin, where she held readings and lectures and called for the fight against racism. Their presence in the city and its socio -political engagement had a major impact on the local community and the international women's movement.

The exhibition in the FHXB Museum offers visitors the opportunity to get an insight into the life and work of Audre Lorde during their time in Berlin. The portraits of Dagmar Schultz shown impressively express the personality and commitment of the poet and activist.

The event is not only a tribute to Audre Lorde, but also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of diversity and equality in society. The exhibition is part of the efforts to keep the legacy of Audre Lorde alive and to continue their message of social justice and emancipation.
