Peaceful protest before Fu Berlin: Dialogue about Gaza conflict wanted!

In front of the Otto-Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin, around 30 Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered on November 28, 2024 to protest the Gaza conflict. The group blocked access to the institute, which was currently empty and has been locked by the university management, as bz-berlin.de . The demonstrators demanded dialogue with students of the FU and, according to the police, were peaceful. Garbage cans were positioned in front of the entrance, but they were now cleared.

The university has provided the protester a space in which they can discuss by 8 p.m. However, it is still unclear how access for the demonstrators can be guaranteed. FU spokeswoman Karen Bauer-Leppin said that the university management wanted to be the contact for the students. However, the Students for Palestine group stated that the FU was not open to a dialogue and that the protest was delegitimized by the university in the past, such as Zeit.de reported.

The police were on site, but there were no evidence of violent clashes or crimes. The events at the FU were partially laid or took place online, while the university management reported that they had not observed anti -Semitic incidents. This protest campaign is part of a number of similar demonstrations at Berlin universities, some of which ended in violent clashes in the past, including an incident disassembled in October with rioters who sprayed slogans with reference to the Middle East conflict.
