Peace and security: Spandau sets signs against nuclear weapons

City of Spandau sets a sign of world peace

On July 8, the Mayors for Peace flag day took place, in which around 600 cities in Germany showed their support for a peaceful world without nuclear weapons. The Mayors-For-Peace flag was also raised in front of the town hall of Spandau to set a strong signal against wars and for peace.

District Mayor Frank Werstig emphasized that the hoist of the Mayors-For-Peace flag reflects the city's commitment to a world without nuclear weapons. He explained: "As part of this global initiative, we are sending a sign of peace and the security of future generations."

Spandaus's participation in this movement shows the responsibility and the active role that cities and municipalities can play in the global peace process. Mayors for Peace, an international organization, founded in 1982 by the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is committed to the abolition of nuclear weapons and today comprises over 8,000 cities in 165 countries and regions.

District Mayor Frank Luke emphasized the importance of common commitment to peace in an insecure world. He emphasized: "Spandau is proud to be part of this important movement and we will continue to make all efforts to make our city and the world safer."
