Florian Hager becomes the new ARD chairman: Change to Hessischer Rundfunk

A significant change is imminent! In 2025, the Hessische Rundfunk took over the presiding role of SWR and thus becomes a motor center of the state media institution. The decision was made in Cologne on September 25, 2024 when the articles of the ARD radio stations came together.

A new star in the ARD sky: Florian Hager, the director of the HR, will take the reins in his hand and replaces the previous chairman Kai Gniffke, who took over this position in 2023. From 2025 Gniffke will then step down to the second row as deputy chairman.

a new course for the ARD

gniffke, who wanted to advance the digital transformation of the ARD, explains with determination: "We all go the way for a digital ARD." His call to unit is clear: "We can only change the ARD together!" With large reforms in his luggage, he transfers the scepter to Hager, who now wants to continue driving the reform agenda with fresh vigor.

Hager brings a clear vision: "I am very happy about the trust and go to this responsibility with a lot of respect." He is aware of the challenges in the media landscape and emphasizes: "In stormy times we will take the wheel!" He plans a strategic division of the presidents to make ARD more flexible and stronger.

The partnership with Radio Bremen will play a key role here. Under the leadership of Klaus Sondergeld, Radio Bremen will also lead the ARD committee chairman conference from 2025. This shows the aim of the ARD to bundle their strength and become even more effective through community efforts.

a festival of cooperation

The ARD chair changes every two years-a proven system that underlines the strength of the federal transmitter community. Every member of this strong community, consisting of nine regional broadcasters, contributes to the diversity and resilience of the ARD. Together they are more than the sum of their parts! This close cooperation should continue to determine the future of the ARD.

The look into the future of the ARD is characterized by hope and dynamics. Hager and his team will accept the challenges that arise from the constantly changing media policy conditions. "We only win as ARD" will not only be a slogan, but a guiding principle that will significantly shape the future!
