Flexible electricity market: Bee President calls for reforms for climate neutrality
Berlin, 26.09.2024: A call for the revolution in the German electricity market !! Bee President Simone Peter, with urgent words, calls for a comprehensive reform to strengthen the flexibility of our energy system. The focus? The renewable energies that are supposed to form the heart of a climate -neutral electricity system!
"Thanks to the Renewable Energy Sergies Act (EEG), we have progressed in the past two decades. Today, solar and wind energy dominate electricity production in Germany! But to achieve the ambitious climate goals by 2045, we need a marketplace that is not only sustainable, but also flexible!" These words from Peter leave no room for doubts when it comes to the need for flexibility at different levels - be it with consumers, storage or producers.
flexibility is the new mantra
The motto of the future? Flexibility instead of rigidity! The times are over when the energy supply was immobile. The new electricity market must use the features of renewable energies to secure stable and environmentally friendly energy future. Peter emphasizes that taxable power plants have to become active if they are used the most. "We need an environment that fully exploits the strengths of the renewables: bioenergy, hydropower, geothermal energy and innovative technologies such as Power2heat!"
Change requires a creative market design that combines the various energy sources clever. "Solar and wind energy are not just options, they are the load-bearing columns for future energy supply!" So that the urgently needed addition in this industry does not stall, adjustment of the investment framework is essential. A production financing model would be the key to not only minimize financial risks, but also to reduce the costs for investors!
The strategy for safe energy future
The Federal Association of Renewable Energie e.V. (Bee) has developed clear strategies to increase the market values and maintain security of supply. "We can reduce the differential costs and at the same time guarantee basic care without the risk of a system break!" In her study, the Bee has already shown how to effectively tackle the challenges of the energy transition by converting the security system.
A crucial part of this strategy is the concept of a level playing field. "We have to take into account the different strengths of the renewables and create a platform that offers all technologies the opportunity to make their contribution!" A clear call to cooperation, which illustrates the urgency and the possibilities of change in the energy sector!
