On Monday evening, the police, fire brigade and civil protection moved to a nursing home in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde at around 10 p.m., as an registered nurse was missing. Although nursing staff were present in the nursing home, the responsible nurse with appropriate training was missing, which the residents could provide the necessary medical help. Other nurses were only responsible for everyday support.
According to the information from BILD, the last remaining registered caregiver had gone home after her duty late Monday evening without a replacement being available or could be achieved. After around two hours, the disaster protection officer of the Lichtenberg district was able to clarify the situation on site and achieve a person responsible who brought the necessary qualifications.
The incident in the nursing home in Berlin illustrates the effects of demographic change, which will cause a lack of qualified workers in the nursing industry in the coming years. According to the Federal Statistical Office, there will be between 280,000 and 690,000 missing nurses in Germany by 2049. This underlines the urgency to take measures to ensure the care and care of people in need of care.
