Bicycle breakdown in Berlin: Police pulls 155 bikes out of circulation
bicycle police officers are now part of the daily picture of the streets of Berlin. But lately they have been less present because their bicycles are out of service due to technical defects. According to the Berliner Zeitung, the police had to pull 155 bicycles out of circulation. An internal letter from the State Police Directorate revealed that the front brake of a bicycle failed during a management safety training of management 3, which led to safety concerns.
With more detailed inspection, the police found that the hub of the front wheel was shot down, which interrupted the connection to the brake disc. When the front wheel was replaced, the same problem occurred again. Due to these safety concerns, all 87 bicycles of a certain brand were pulled out of circulation and a ban on use was imposed. In addition, 68 bicycles of another brand were temporarily closed due to a potential risk of falling.
The police took measures to fix the defects on the bicycles to ensure the safety of the bicycle policemen. Nevertheless, the effects are noticeable because these measures have significant restrictions on the patrol service of the police bicycle relay. A quick and comprehensive solution for the exchange of bicycles is still pending, which leads to a reduced presence of the bicycle police officers on the streets of Berlin.
