Extreme heat in Berlin and Brandenburg: up to 35 degrees on Wednesday!

In the first week of September it seems that summer is going back in full splendor. The temperatures in Berlin and Brandenburg could reach the 35 degrees brand on Wednesday. These are values that have not been measured in the region since the 19th century. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a heat warning for this region, with the exception of the Uckermark. Caution is particularly important in the densely populated urban areas of Berlin.

Andreas Arndt, a meteorologist of the ARD weather competence center, explains that the region has the hottest air masses that can be reached for us. "This is not a completely unknown appearance, but to record the frequency of new temperature records in September is remarkable," continued Arndt.

health risks and leisure opportunities

The heat load can cause health problems, which is why the authorities indicate suitable cooling options. Bathing in the many lakes of Berlin offers one possibility. The Berlin State Office for Health and Social Affairs continuously monitors the water quality of various swimming lakes that can be viewed on the website bade.berlin.de . Lakes such as the Jungfernheidesee, Müggelsee and Lake Airport are currently recommended for swimmers, while at other bathing areas, such as the Grunewaldurm, are advised to be advised.

In the middle of this heat wave, the drought also harbors risks. In Brandenburg in particular, the risk of forest fire has increased again. As the Ministry of the Environment informed, the highest warning levels are activated in nine of the fourteen counties. Especially the eastern regions, the Uckermark down to the Spree-Neisse, are particularly affected. The second highest warning level applies in energetic western parts of the country. Meteorologists hope that the announced thunderstorms could defuse the situation somewhat on Wednesday.

Thursday does not bring much relief: On this day, too, a lot of sun and temperatures between 30 and 33 degrees can be expected, with a light east wind. However, the dry air will make the heat a little more pleasant. According to the Arndt, some spring clouds could form, and in the southern Brandenburg there are not excluded shower and thunderstorms, but there is only a low risk of thunderstorms.

The heat wave is expected to continue until the weekend, with temperatures that can reach up to 30 degrees. However, it looks like it will be more changeable in the next week. Summer announces that it is slowly but surely withdrawing to autumn. The temperatures will then go back into the basement, and it becomes generally autumnal, according to the experts.
