Explosion of knife stabbing - protection of the population: Do we need liberalization of gun law?
"Consequences of the increasing knife stabbing - debate about weapons law"
The increasing number of stabbing and associated acts of violence has accepted worrying proportions in recent years. Not only in Berlin, but also in other cities, the number of cases has increased drastically. Politicians are required to find appropriate solutions to ensure the safety of the population.
Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser is repeatedly praised for her measures against right -wing extremist violence, but her efforts seem to have little success with regard to the increasing stabbing. The figures speak for themselves: According to the police statistics in Berlin, 8,951 cases of violence were registered with knives in Berlin alone. The first half of 2024 suggests that this number will be exceeded.
In response to this alarming development, Nancy Faeser proposed a measure, which, however, encounters criticism. She would like to reduce the permissible blade length of knives carried out from 12 to 6 cm. However, critics, such as Hans-Georg Maassen, the federal chairman of the values union, doubt the effect of this measure. After all, you could also kill with a short blade. In addition, the question of the feasibility of these controls arises, especially in view of the already overloaded police authorities.
Another goal of Nancy Faeser is the tightening of weapons law, not only with regard to the knife, but also in relation to hunters, sports shooters and supposedly unreliable gun owners. She has already expressed her support for a ban on semi -automatic weapons. These intentions encounter great resistance, especially for hunters, sports shooters and critics of the government.
An alternative perspective is brought in by Hans Georg Maassen, a lawyer and hunter. He emphasizes that the state fails to protect the population and that every person has the right to self -defense. Instead of discussing restrictions, fundamental liberalization of weapons law should be considered. If the state is unable to protect the population from violence, people should be allowed to defend themselves.
The increase in stabbing and acts of violence is a serious threat to the safety of the population. A constructive debate about effective solutions and the role of gun law is urgently necessary to restore trust in the protection of the state.
