EU AI Act: Protection against negative effects of AI systems-TÜV association demands unbureaucratic implementation

The TÜV association welcomes the acceptance of the EU AI Act by the EU Council as a decisive signal for binding regulations in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The AI Act protects society from the negative effects of AI systems and promotes innovations for high-quality "Ki Made in Europe". With the introduction of the EU AI Act, the EU is given the chance to establish a leading market for safe AI examination.

The AI Act will only be as good as its national implementation. A uniform interpretation and consistent application are therefore required. It is important to define clear responsibilities as possible and build up or expand the responsible bodies. The European standardization organizations should also promote the development of harmonized standards for the compliant implementation of the AI requirements.

The TÜV organizations are already preparing intensively for the structure of the appropriate test know-how. In 2021 the "TÜV AI.Lab" was founded to accompany regulatory and technical requirements for AI and to promote the development of test criteria. The TÜV AI.Lab is, among other things, a partner in the national initiative for artificial intelligence and data economy (Mission KI) of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport and the German Academy of Technology.

the EU AI Act was adopted by the EU Parliament on March 13, 2024 and has now also passed the final coordination in the EU Council. The publication in the EU-Amtsblatt is expected between June and July 2024, and the AI Act officially comes into force after 20 days. However, it will still take 36 months for all requirements to be applied completely.

The TÜV association is committed to the technical and digital security as well as the sustainability of vehicles, products, systems and services. The goal is to maintain the high level of technical security, to create confidence in the digital world and to maintain the foundations of life.
