Opening of the citizens' garden: A green paradise for Treptow!

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, the allotment garden "Britzer Allee" e.V. in Berlin will become the stage for the official opening event of the new picking and citizen garden. From 2:00 p.m., all residents, guests from the neighborhood and interested parties are cordially invited to discover this special place of encounter and exchange. Berlin.de reports that…

The garden, which is funded by the State of Berlin, should not only offer space for gardening activities, but also act as a lively place to learn. The program highlights include guided tours through the garden, information about the origin and diversity of the plants as well as a children's and summer festival with play stations and face painting. A culinary buffet with regional and seasonal treats rounds off the event.

The picking garden - a green oasis

A special feature of the project is the creation of the pickling garden on a plot of around 500 m² in the allotment garden. About 200 m² are reserved for the pickling garden, which is pursuing the goal of creating a green oasis for the residents of Treptow and Neukölln. Here fruit trees and berry bushes are to grow, the fruits of which can harvest the visitors themselves. KGA Britzer Allee informs about…

To support the care of the garden, visitors can leave small donations, although the rest of the harvest is available free of charge. The concept is complemented by a wildflower meadow and an insect hotel to promote biodiversity. Information boards provide information about the plant species and their ecological importance. In addition, a digital app is being planned, which is supposed to act as a teaching trail through the picking garden and conveys knowledge of plant and animal species.

Urban Gardening - The trend in urban development

The project is part of a larger trend: Urban Gardening is experiencing a renaissance in cities like Berlin. This movement reacts to the shortage of acreage and the increasing demand for local food. Urban gardens promote not only self -sufficiency and sustainability, but also social interaction between the residents. The picking garden is therefore not only a place of relaxation, but also a center of the community.

community gardens strengthen the exchange and identity of people. They contribute to improving air quality and have positive effects on urban ecology and biodiversity. Innovative concepts such as vertical gardening and the use of smart technologies also influence urban development and offer solutions for the challenges of urban spaces. Lebensundfreiheit.de reports on the importance of urban gardening…

The project group of the picking garden is actively working on the implementation. A application for funding of € 3,000.00 has already been successfully submitted to further advance the initiative. This not only becomes a place for the cultivation of food, but also a center for learning and community activity in the heart of Berlin.
