Opening of the new jelbi station in Friedenau: More sharing vehicles for everyone!
On June 16, 2025, the jelbi station U Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz/Schmiljanstrasse was officially opened in Friedenau. District City Councilor Dr. Saskia Ellenbeck and Michael Bartnik, deputy department head Jelbi of the BVG, emphasized the importance of this facility. It is part of the first cross-district jelbi network, which is supposed to offer the residents of the city a new, integrated mobility solution.
The new station enables users to rent and park sharing vehicles such as two-wheelers and cars in a bundled manner. The booking is made via the jelbi app, which enables comprehensive use of mobility services in Berlin. This app covers all mobility needs and also offers access to travel planning, booking and payment, which facilitates change between different means of transport. Users can use it to choose and compare cheap bus or train journeys, e-mopeds, bicycles, taxis and cars jelbi
expanded mobility offers in Friedenau
The partial network Friedenau, which has been in operation since the beginning of May, comprises a total of four Jelbi locations. These were strategically created close to public transport stops and Schloßstraße:
- jelbi station u Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz/Schmiljanstraße
- jelbi-point u Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz/Wiesbadener Straße
- jelbi point u Walther-Scheiber-Platz/Lefèvrestraße
- jelbi-point u Walther-Schreiber-Platz/Peschkestrasse (temporarily blocked due to construction site)
A central goal of these measures is to increase the availability of sharing vehicles near important traffic nodes. The introduction of a "jelbi zone" in the public street outside of the S-Bahn ring should ensure more order and clarity. There, up to 14 jelbi locations are planned every 200 meters, which are equipped with a digital parking zone for sharing two wheels to prevent wild parking.
In this context, Michael Bartnik emphasized the importance of order on walking and cycle paths. The coordination of a foot patrol of the four scooter providers is ensured by Jelbi. In addition, users can report incorrectly parked rent or scooters via the jelbi registration side, which has led to a drastic halving of the monthly false parking reports since May.Integration of mobility planning
Developments in Berlin are in line with the goals of integrated urban development and mobility planning, which are funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. New concepts of urban mobility should not only reduce environmental pollution, but also promote equal opportunities and diversity of urban life Difu . The combination of urban planning, mobility behavior and technological innovations promotes sustainable urban coexistence.
Overall, the new jelbi offers will help to further improve mobility in Berlin and to increase the quality of life in urban areas. This project shows how innovative approaches in mobility planning can meet both the needs of the modern city dwellers and the challenges of climate change.
