Jewish life and resistance in the Bötzowviertel - invitation to a walk

On Saturday, August 26, SPD MP Tino Schopf invites all of the interested parties to a walk through the Bötzowviertel in Prenzlauer Berg. The focus is on the footsteps of Jewish life and the resistance struggle in this quarter. The meeting point for the walk is at 2 p.m. at the bull well on the Arnswalder.

During the walk, the question is also dealt with which connection of the book title "I was wearing the yellow star" with the life of a well -known resident of the quarter. However, it is also pointed out that the Bötzowviertel was not just a place of resistance to the Nazi rule.

On the tour of the district, interesting information on the neighborhood culture and history is conveyed. For example, one also learns that today's Käthe-Niederkirchner-Straße, formerly known as Lippehner Straße, was the place where the condom was invented. More information is given during the walk.

The walk takes about two hours and is free. No registration is required, you can simply come to the meeting point and join the group.

on Sunday, August 27th, Tino Schopf offers another tour. This time it goes to the Jewish cemetery in Weißensee, the largest preserved Jewish cemetery in Europe. In this cemetery you have been informed about the history of Jewish life in Berlin since the 13th century and learn why it is seen as a garden monument. In addition, you also learn something about the role of architect Hugo Licht in the planning and design of the cemetery.

Meeting point for this tour is at 2 p.m. at the entrance to the cemetery on Markus-Reich-Platz. Registration is required for participation, and male participants should wear a headgear.
