Elon Musk against EU-Zensur: Fight for freedom of expression on X-platform
Value Union supports the advocate of free speech and the platform X / Elon Musk - "Mr. Freedom of expression"
A unique situation has occurred: the French Commissioner Thierry Breton, who was not elected, but still acts as the top censor of the European Union, tries to create a muzzle and his network X (formerly Twitter). Before the interview with Donald Trump, the Frenchman Musk had warned to comply with the rules defined by the EU, otherwise he would get his "instrument box" out.
The threat refers to the possibility of providing a large digital provider with a penalty of up to 6 % of the annual turnover. The basis for Breton's attack is the so -called Digital Services Act (DSA), which has been in force across Europe since February 2024. The law states: "The law on digital services facilitates the removal of illegal content and protects the fundamental rights of the users. This also includes freedom of speech on the Internet." The focus is on the so -called "hate speech". However, the "Federal Network Agency and the other responsible authorities" decide when it is one. Critics of the law consider the DSA as a massive attack on freedom of expression. Elon Musks X with the more than 200 million users every day is particularly the focus.
dr. Hans-Georg Maassen, lawyer and federal chairman of the value union, sees the situation as follows: "It is obvious: what the government says is an opinion of what the opponents of their politics are spreading is agitation or hate speech. These two terms stand for opinion oppression. The existing laws, not only in Germany, but in the entire EU, are completely sufficient to pursue all of us. Musk holds up the flag. Freedom of speech is fundamental for the future for the tech billionaire. He recently wrote on X: "X will always defend freedom of speech." Typical for him, he did not censor the Trump interview, but at the same time also offered Kamala Harris, his opponent, to use the platform.
The censorship attack against Musk and X is nothing new. The top Brazilian dish also puts him under pressure and wants to blackmail access data from certain users who are a thorn in the side of the socialist government. Here Musk also stands across.
The attack from Brussels has also brought Breton into the spotlight. Critics accuse the Commissioner (who earns 20,000 euros per month) to use the Senegalese citizenship that he received years ago. If the allegations were true, Breton would only have to pay 5 % taxes.
The French's latest censorship attack has been particularly approved in Germany in Germany, which stated: "Elon Musk is becoming more and more dangerous for democracy". The high-tech billionaire is a "racist online troll" and his expropriation "would be the solution of the hour." Ironically, this attack took place on the criticized medium itself, on X,
The debate about freedom of expression on the Internet and the role of digital platforms such as X is thus going into a new round. The value union supports Elon Musk and his defense of freedom of speech. The question of the extent to which governments and authorities should regulate the content on such platforms is still controversial.
