The peacock island in Berlin is a real treasure of history and stories. Michael Seiler, currently 82 years old, has spent an incredible 42 years of his life on this island and thus knows every corner and every anecdote. Since 1978 he has been working here as a castellan, i.e. as an official administrator and gardener.

The peacock island is an idyllic island in the middle of the Havel, which owes its name to the numerous free -range peaks. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it attracts many visitors every year, which are fascinated by its unique beauty and moving history.

The history of the island goes back to the 17th century when it became part of the royal hunting area. In the 19th century it was made by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. And Queen Luise converted into a romantic summer residence for the royal family. The castle on the island served as a retreat and place of relaxation.

Michael's time on the Pfaueninsel began at a time when there was still the so -called residence obligation. This meant that employees had to live on the island to ensure the security of the property. However, this regulation was canceled in later years.

As a Kastellan, Michael was responsible for the administration and the preservation of the buildings and the park. He lovingly took care of the numerous gardens and the characteristic peacocks, which have now become a landmark of the island.
