EHEC alarm in Berlin: rising cases paralyze the city, health in danger!

First nausea, then serious diarrhea - EHEC is back in Germany and ensures worries again! By mid-October 2024, the Robert Koch Institute registered 127 cases this year alone, a dramatic increase compared to the 98 cases in 2023. Berlin is particularly affected, where 21 EHEC cases were counted in Neukölln alone. The health authorities warn that it is a Germany-wide outbreak that may be connected to a seminar in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, in which around 130 people took part.

The symptoms of EHEC, caused by the dreaded bacteria Escherichia coli, are devastating and can lead to serious health consequences such as hemolytic-uremic syndrome. Three HUS cases have already been reported this year. In contrast to the previous year, there has been no death from EHEC infections in 2024.
