DuH announces legal review of new gas projects in southern Germany
German environmental aid starts legal examination of planned gas bores in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg
The German Environmental Aid (DUH) has announced that it will carry out the legal examination of planned new gas projects in southern Germany. The focus is on a new gas funding project in Bavaria and an application for commercial gas funding in Baden-Württemberg.
In the district of Landsberg in the municipality of Reichling, the Canadian group is planning MCF Energy Ltd. Together with his German subsidiary Genexco Gas new test drilling. The state government has already given the company permission for this. In the district of Sigmaringen in the municipality of Pfullendorf, the Australian Afton Energy Ltd. Commercial gas production. These two projects are part of the strategy of international groups to establish a new gas funding structure in southern Germany.
The DUH sharply criticizes these plans. The planned gas funding is not only contradicted by the global climate goals, but also had a significant impact on nature and local people. Air pollutants, construction site traffic, forest flowing and risks for surrounding protected areas are only a few of the negative consequences.
Sascha Müller-Kraenner, federal manager of the DUH, emphasizes the importance of exit from fossil energy: "Gas must be abandoned as an energy source instead of initiating new projects. What is currently happening in southern Germany is in the completely wrong direction. Before Borkum in the North Sea, we will not be a standal viewer of these projects, but will carry out a careful legal review.
In addition to the planned gas bores in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the DUH also concerns the announcement of the federal government to take into account "further potential for domestic gas production". According to the growth initiative, which was published last week together with the cornerstones for the 2025 budget, the Federal Government continues to focus on promoting international gas projects. Constantin Zerger, Head of Energy and Climate Protection of the DUH, warns of this climate -political wrong decision and emphasizes that the gas requirement will decrease in the coming years. There is no need for new international projects or for expanding domestic funding. The DUH therefore appeals to the federal government to show clear edge and to reject all new fossil projects.
Deutsche Environmental Aid has set itself the goal of legally reviewing all new gas funding projects in Germany and protecting the interests of the environment and society. The planned gas bores in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are the focus of these efforts.
