Drug controls on the A15: Police determine 12 drunk people!

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the police carried out a large-scale control campaign on Autobahn 15 near Vetschau (Oberspreewald-Lausitz). This measure aimed to combat drugs in road traffic. Police officers from Brandenburg and other federal states were involved in the control, supplemented by customs and federal police. More than 800 vehicles were checked by noon.

The results of the controls were significant. A total of 12 drivers were found under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In addition, 4 people had no valid driver's license, and in 2 cases the vehicles were advertised for searching. Similar checks took place only a day earlier, on Monday, in Herzberg (Elbe-Elster), in which around 300 road users were checked for drug use. 7 people were caught under the influence of cocaine, cannabis or amphetamine and 3 drivers had alcohol in their blood, which led to administrative offenses.

methods for traffic control

In traffic controls, the officials have the right to order drug tests or alcohol tests if there is a reasonable suspicion. Various test methods are used, including urine, saliva, sweat and blood tests. Determine the cut-off values of the tests when a drug test is considered positive, whereby these values vary depending on the method selected. It is important to note that urine tests are considered fast and reliable, but are not recognized as evidence in court. On the other hand, blood tests are the only legitimate method for judicial evaluation.

Alcohol tests also play a central role. You measure the breath alcohol concentration, with a blood sample required for values above 0.5 per thousand. The risk of a driver's license or fines should be determined if positive drug or alcohol tests are found. Passive smoke can also lead to positive results, since the cut-off values are very low.

traffic safety and education

The risk of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs should not be underestimated. Traffic accidents due to the influence of drugs or alcohol are one of the main causes for accidents. In 2020, Bayern had a total of 4,463 accidents with alcohol and 560 accidents with drug influences. The number of unreported cases on trips under influence without damage caused by damage is also high. In order to tackle this problem, the Bavarian traffic watch has been involved in education and prevention for years.

In 1985, for example, the "East Bavarian Road Safety Action" was launched in order to bring the dangers of alcohol and drug use in road traffic closer to young drivers between the ages of 18 and 25. In cooperation with institutions such as ADAC and TÜV Süd, lectures and experience -oriented events are carried out on the top of the wheel with the topics of alcohol, drugs and distraction.

The information here is not only important for current road users, but also for future generations of drivers. Distraction in road traffic is an increasingly recognizable danger. Statistics show that over half of the drivers indicate that they have gotten into critical situations by distraction. The information program of the traffic betting aims to minimize these risks in order to create a safer driving environment for everyone involved.
