After 33 years of committed work at the German Raiffeisenverband (DRV), Dr. Thomas Memmert started his well -deserved retirement on August 31, 2023. Memmert, who acts as managing director and head of the Brussels office, is considered a fixture within European agricultural policy and has made a decisive contribution to the reputation of the DRV at European level.
dr. Memmert began his career at DRV in 1990 as a speaker for dairy farming. Thanks to his well-founded training in agricultural and farm animal sciences, he was quickly established in the organization. Six years later, he took over the management of the Brussels liaison office and was appointed managing director in 2016, which was an important step in his career.
One of the greatest achievements of Memmert was to combine different sectors such as cattle economy, dairy and feed economy into a powerful “team animal refinement”. This innovative merger not only promoted efficiency, but also cooperation among the members of the association. The association currently has 1,656 member companies that generate sales of 82.6 billion euros.
The farewell celebration for Dr. Memmert was visited by numerous companions from both domestic and abroad. They paid tribute to his professional expertise, especially in the field of dairy farming. "Curiosity and passion made him a sought -after contact," emphasized Karsten Schmal, Vice President of the German Farmers' Association. These characteristics, combined with its pronounced sense of community and humor, made him a popular and respected member of the agricultural community.
The course for the future of the DRV has already been set: Dr. Christian Weseloh takes over the management, while Paula Pickert takes over the management of the Brussels office. This continuity promises that the successful principles of Memmert will continue to be continued in the future.
Finally, Dr. Memmert his many years of activity with the words: "I look back on 33 years of well -invested working hours because the cooperatives are very dear to my heart." This personal reflection not only underlines his devotion, but also the influence that the DRV has on its members and the entire agricultural economy.
