Digital Zebra in Hellersdorf: Free course for everyone!
On Monday, October 6, 2025, a new project called “Digital-Zebra” will be launched in the “Ehm Welk” central library in Hellersdorf-Nord. The kick-off event begins at 2:00 p.m. This innovative offering is aimed at people of all ages who need support with digital issues and includes services such as creating PDF documents, using apps securely and booking appointments online. This makes the central library the first in the district to offer this service.
Participation in “Digital Zebra” is free and does not require advance registration or a library card. The consultations are carried out by a trained digital guide. The service hours for digital support are Mondays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This new offer is part of a larger initiative to promote digital inclusion and participation in Berlin, which is being implemented in a total of 22 libraries in the Association of Berlin Public Libraries (VÖBB).
Promoting digital participation
The “Digital Zebra” project is funded by a joint initiative of the Berlin Senate and the European Regional Development Fund. Its aim is to support people who are often excluded from digital offerings. These people are disadvantaged in many areas, such as administration, education, culture, health and work. Public libraries offer orientation, skills acquisition and self-help in order to reduce these inequalities.
Trained digital guides will be available at a total of 17 locations in Berlin. These offer weekly support of 20 to 30 hours, covering a variety of services. This includes the use of digital access to citizen services, appointment bookings, ticket purchases as well as e-learning and digital service offerings. The project is also supported by workshops and events aimed at deepening digital skills and is a collaboration with various organizations such as Silbernetz e.V. and the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Landesverband Berlin e. v.
