The Future Academy Lausitz: Young people discover the energy region

Future Academy of Lausitz promotes the energy transition and participation of young people

Lausitz, 08.07.2024 -From July 8th to 12th, 2024, the second edition of the Future Academy Lausitz will take place in the LEAG conference center in Lübbenau. The aim of this event is to provide young people between the ages of 18 and 27 from Berlin, Saxony and Brandenburg a deeper understanding of the current challenges and opportunities of Lusatia in structural change. The Future Academy of Qlee (Qualification Association in Lusatia for Renewable Energies) and the DGB project Revierwende is organized. The program includes various workshops, discussions and excursions on topics such as energy transition, sustainability and youth participation.

During the event, the participants have the opportunity to get in touch with experts from politics, business and civil society and to develop their own ideas for the region. The aim is to reduce the existing information deficit and motivate young people to actively participate in structural change.

The importance of knowledge transfer and the participation of young people is shown in a recent survey by the Revierwende. Although the respondents feel poorly informed about the transformation, they basically consider the region to be attractive and would like to help shape. So there is great potential, which is further funded by the Future Academy Lausitz.

Wolfram Axthelm, Managing Director of the Federal Association for Renewable Energy (BEE), emphasizes the important role of Lausitz in the energy transition. With a high installed renewable performance per capita and a well-developed infrastructure, Lausitz is a central location for the energy transition. The use of renewable energies can not only strengthen regional added value, but also create future -proof jobs.

The LEAG, the largest energy company in Lausitz, is planning to commission up to 14 gigawatt renewable electricity generation by 2040. However, this transformation process also has major challenges for companies in the energy industry. Therefore, the need for well -qualified specialists is greater than ever. Thorsten Kramer, CEO of LEAG, encourages young people to take advantage of this opportunity for their professional future and work on the safe and sustainable energy supply of tomorrow.

Marko Schmidt, team leader Lausitz at Revierwende, emphasizes the importance of integrating young people into the transformation process. According to a youth survey, many young people want to stay in Lausitz and see the future academy as an opportunity to discover the opportunities of the region and to actively participate in the energy transition.

one of the participants, Cornelius Busse, shows his enthusiasm for the future academy and structural change. As a student of the civil engineering system, he is interested in renewable energies and the change in Lusatia. He sees the ongoing projects and settlements in the region as a positive sign of successful structural change.

The Lausitz future academy will not only sensitize young people to the challenges of structural change, but also promote their active participation. Through the transfer of knowledge and the development of new ideas, Lausitz can become the spearhead of the energy transition and at the same time create future -proof jobs.
