The island of the Perverse: spectacular premiere with painfully strange scenes!

On Thursday, the provocative play "The Island of Perverse" celebrated its premiere at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, staged by Rosa von Praunheim, a prominent gay activist and artist. This painfully strange staging paints a dark picture of a future society in which the AfD and the BSW have taken over the power, represented by Alice Weidel and Sahra Wagenknecht, which brutally act against alternative lifestyles. In this dystopian vision, the audience is confronted with a shocking reality in which artists and "perverse" are banished from Germany. Among them find historical figures such as a black Goethe and Jesus, played by the actors of the German theater. The performers switch between different characters at lightning speed and thus create a dynamic, energetic evening that captures the audience, despite the sometimes missing red thread and the clear action.

The staging tears in all conventions in its satire and, in the meantime, processes the reality in which Hitler and Trump's presence is hardly shocked, but rather cheered. In particular, the representation of Putin's unexpected appearance on a cuddly bear ensures amusement in the audience, which is also aware of the slippery political undertones. As the Berliner Zeitung notes, the brutal measures to strengthen the new order will be noted Including the castration and deportation of dissenters - not only criticized by the piece, but also represented as a grotesque farce that stimulates the viewer for reflection.
