The DUH puts SUVs on the launch list: Are the park nodules now?

A wave of new restrictions rolls towards drivers in Germany, especially the approximately six million SUV owners. As Berlin Live , the German Environmental Aid (DUH) demands a drastic measure: SUVs should be exiled from the city centers and are to be banned in special parking spaces become. For many drivers, this decision could result in significant costs due to increased parking fees, while at the same time the parking facilities in the city centers should be severely restricted. The DUH sees SUVs as a space screwdriver and source of danger for other road users and wants to reduce their number by new, stricter regulations.

Not only SUVs are the focus of the discussion, the noise from road traffic is also a burden for the population. According to new figures, around 16 million people in Germany are affected by health-hazardous traffic noise, such as "https://www.duh.de/presse/pressemayteilungen/pressemayeilungen/16-million-belze--nicht--bet-stelle-deutsche-und-verkehrs-und-verkehrsclub-deutschl/"> Deutsche Environmental Aid. In order to counteract this problem, the municipalities must develop noise action plans by July 2024. The DUH and the ecological traffic club (VCD) urge the introduction of speed limits of speed 30 in urban areas and call for a consistent expansion of local transport as well as cycling and footpaths.

Citizens are asked to actively defend themselves against street noise by stimulating noise reduction through a new online tool. According to the Duh director Dorothee Saar, millions of health is endangered by inadequate noise protection. The hard measures required against SUV drivers and to combat traffic noise show the urge after a faster implementation of measures to improve the quality of life in cities.
