The German basketball players celebrated a remarkable success at the European Championship. On September 3, 2025, they won clearly against Finland with 91:61 (50:36) in the last preliminary round game and thus secured the group victory. In front of 12,900 spectators in Tampere, the team showed a convincing performance, in particular captain Dennis Schröder and Franz Wagner, who became the game with 23 points. The team now travels as a group winner for the final round in Riga, where they meet Portugal in the round of 16.
The German basketball players not only impressed with the high number of points, but also with a strong defensive. Isaac Bonga stopped Finland's NBA star Lauri Markkanen with many steals and blocks. After a difficult start in which the team initially defeated in the first quarter, they quickly found their way back into play and took control. The second quarter was particularly strong when Wagner contributed 13 points and the team took the lead with 14 points until half -time.
