German Study Award 2024: Vocational training researcher Dr. Stefan Nagel wins with an innoative approach

Institute for professional sciences of metal technology at Leibniz Universität Hannover won the German Study Award 2024. Dr. Stefan Nagel, a vocational training researcher, was honored for his dissertation, which deals with the contribution of the specialist work on sustainability. The Körber Foundation awards the German Study Award annually for outstanding dissertations with high social relevance.

The dissertation by Dr. Stefan Nagel has dealt with the question of how specialist work in the industrial metal area can contribute to sustainable Transformation in companies. In view of the urgent need for sustainable development, not only consumer behavior, but also industrial production, plays an important role. In his interdisciplinary research, Stefan Nagel examined which knowledge and skills need specialists to promote sustainable development in their companies. Through comprehensive empirical studies, he has developed a competence model that describes the necessary skills, as well as specific approaches to anchor and promote sustainability in vocational training and specialist work.

The German Study Award is awarded by the Körber Foundation and is one of the highest-payer scientific young prices in Germany. In addition to the main prize of 25,000 euros, six second prizes with 5,000 euros each are awarded. The winners are awarded for excellent dissertations that have a special social meaning. The awarding of the German Study Award 2024 takes place in the German Parliamentary Society in Berlin and is headed by Bundestag President Bärbel BAS.

The award from Dr. Stefan Nagel shows the importance of the specialist work for sustainable development in industry. His results will help strengthen the awareness of sustainability in vocational training and specialist work and to support companies in implementing sustainable practices in their processes.
