33.9 million euros for cancer excellence centers

33.9 million euros for cancer excellence centers

Deutsche Krebshilfe announces the continuation of top centers for cancer treatment and research. A total of 33.9 million euros will be made available in the next four years. The funding affects university locations in Berlin, Essen/Münster, Freiburg, Frankfurt/Marburg, Göttingen/Hanover, Hamburg, Mainz as well as Tübingen-Stuttgart and Ulm, which form the new consortium "CCC Südwest".

why is that important?

The funded comprehensive cancer center (CCCS) offer comprehensive and quality -assured patient care at the highest level. They are not only active at the medical level, but also contribute to the further development of supply structures and processes as well as the promotion of innovative oncological research. The assessment of the CCCs shows that the centers have been improved in most criteria. However, there is still a need for action in the inclusion of cancer affected in clinical studies.

onconnect strengthens regional networking of CCCS

In order to include even more patients in studies, improved cooperation between CCCs with surrounding supply structures is required. The "Onconnect" joint project funded by the German Cancer Aid aims to support the networking of CCCs. The aim is to ensure the best possible supply of cancer patients outside of metropolitan regions.

The funding program of the German Cancer Aid

Deutsche Krebshilfe launched the funding program to support top centers for cancer treatment in 2007. The program is based on the "Comprehensive Cancer Centers" in the USA. The funded centers must meet strict requirements and work closely with other institutions to make the results of cancer research accessible nationwide
