The influence of "Compact" - a comment on the ban on the magazine

The recently pronounced ban on the "Compact" magazine has triggered an important discussion about the role of right -wing extremist propaganda in Germany. It is undeniably that this rush leaf is dangerous and is based on ethnic ideologies and right -wing conspiracy counts. Therefore, it is a welcome step that the magazine has been banned.

The surprise of the editor -in -chief and founder, Jürgen Elsässer, shows how much he was convinced of his own influence. Alsatians are undoubtedly one of the cleverly agitators and demagogues of the right -wing extremist scene that even glorify neo -fascist murderers like the NSU.

However, it remains questionable whether the ban is actually a "hard blow against the right -wing extremist scene", as Federal Interior Minister Faeser described. The propagandists of the "new right" lose a rangwide medium, but there are still others who spread their message a little more moderately. Alsatians themselves will continue to spread his calls on rallies of the extreme right and work on the international unit front of right -wing radicals and nationalists.

It is important to recognize that Elsässer's influence should not be underestimated because it can cleverly formulate political goals. These goals are partly congruent with those of the so -called "system parties" that pretend to fight against the rights. In truth, however, they drive their rights in front of them and even take part. This benefits the AfD in particular, which can claim that the pressure on it affects it. At the same time, thanks to the ban on "Compact", AfD and Co. can stage even more effective than persecuted indomitable. This, together with the possibility that Alsatians successfully proceeds the ban in court, could soon invalidate the pyrrhus victory of the ban.

The ban on the "Compact" magazine should not tempt us to underestimate the entire right -wing extremist scene and its ideologies. It is an important step, but further efforts are required to combat right -wing extremist influence and hate propaganda in our society.
