Protect Democracy - Receive the welfare state: Bündnis publishes position paper on the Federal Budget 2025

An alliance of free welfare associations, social associations, Campact and the United Service Union (ver.di) has published a joint position paper entitled "Protect Democracy - Receive the Welfare State" for the Federal Balent of 2025. The discussion about the federal budget in 2025 has become very important in recent weeks and this alliance would like to clarify its position and demands. The press release was published today on June 21, 2024.

The extensive position paper includes numerous demands and measures to protect democracy and maintain the welfare state. The focus is on topics such as a fair distribution of income, the strengthening of the social infrastructure, securing employee rights and the protection of the environment and climate. The alliance argues that a comprehensive investment in social benefits and infrastructure not only strengthens social cohesion, but also promotes economic development.

Viewed locally, the debate about the Bundes budget 2025 could have an impact on Berlin. As the capital and seat of the federal government, Berlin is particularly affected by political decisions and budget distributions. Adequate financing of the welfare state and an appropriate distribution of the funds could benefit Berlin organizations and service companies. This could also contribute to an improvement in the quality of life for the Berlin population in the long term.

Historically, Berlin has an eventful story in relation to the welfare state. After the Second World War, Berlin played an outstanding role in restoring the welfare state in Germany. In particular, the structure of the welfare system and the securing of social rights were important steps in the development of the social infrastructure. The current discussion about the federal budget reflects this historical meaning and sets the course for the future design of the welfare state.

In the following table, important information about the associations involved is listed:

The publication of the joint position paper "Protect Democracy - Protecting the Welfare State" marks a further step in the public debate about the Federal Budget 2025. The participation of important associations and unions strengthens the position of the alliance and contributes to the fact that the demands and concerns of different social groups are heard. It remains to be seen to what extent these claims flow into political decision -making and what effects the federal budget will ultimately have on Berlin and other regions.
