The right of nature-Philosophical-Political Summer Academy 2024

In a time when dealing with nature is becoming increasingly important, the question arises whether nature should have rights itself. This philosophical-political problem is discussed at this year's summer academy of the Evangelical Academy Bad Boll. Under the title "The Right of Nature", current designs for such a law are presented and the political consequences are examined.

The philosopher Dr. Peter Vollbrecht, head of the Esslingen Philosophical Forum, will introduce the topic and lead the further discussions. The event will take place from September 13th to 15th, 2024 in the evangelical conference center in Bad Boll.

A main aspect of the discussion is whether a right to nature can lead to improved politics of sustainability and climate justice. New approaches in legal philosophy and constitutional law offer possible ways here so that nature can get its right.

For example, Ecuador has already awarded its own right and declared it a legal subject. This step is highly symbolic and could serve as a model for other countries that want to establish natural rights.
