Roof renovation at the central cemetery: A step for the future!

Zentralfriedhof Friedrichsfelde, Berlin, Deutschland - On May 30, 2025, an important measure for maintenance of the celebration hall will be initiated at the central cemetery of Friedrichsfelde in Berlin-Lichtenberg. From the beginning of June, the roof renovation work will begin, which are urgently required after moisture damage has been repeatedly determined in recent years. These damage not only resulted in the substance of the hall, but also the large -scale crumbling from plaster over the organ. The first construction phase includes the construction of a scaffolding, which is attached to two stages on the east/south side and the north/west side. The completion is planned for mid -June 2025.

The total cost of roof renovation amounts to around 350,000 euros. Filiz Keküllüoğlu, district councilor of the Greens, emphasizes the important function of the celebration hall as a place of silent commemoration. Camilla Schuler from the left emphasizes that this renovation measure is crucial for the preservation of the district infrastructure. In order to protect the mourning communities during the construction work, a five -meter -long tunnel is installed on the main access, which is designed with a printed network tarpaulin to facilitate access.

The redesign reduces the sealed area by around 2,640 square meters and leads to saving around 4,800 euros annually on rainwater charges. A side trench enables the decentralized rainwater infiltration, which significantly improves the quality of stay by a two -meter -wide planting strip with perennials and grasses. In addition, around 2,000 flower bulbs are planned for planting for autumn, and wildflower meadows are created along the street to promote biodiversity.
