Crimson Sunday enchants in a castle in the air – but where are the fans?

Yesterday evening, September 3rd, 2025, a concert by the band Crimson Sunday took place at the Tempelhofer Feld air castle in Berlin. Due to the unfavorable weather conditions - dark clouds and the threat of rain - the open-air event was equipped with beer benches and blankets to provide a certain level of comfort for the few people in attendance. Despite the capacity of 300 to 400 people, only around 20 spectators were present, which further enhanced the planned intimate atmosphere. A spectator read a book during the concert, which added to the special atmosphere of the evening. According to rbb24, many regretted the lack of an audience, considering that Crimson Sunday rarely performs.

The Berlin power duo consisting of Leon (electric guitar and vocals) and Thommi (bass) impresses with a musical style that is inspired by the sounds of the 1960s and 70s, as well as modern influences such as those of Coldplay and Noel Gallagher. Their sound combines elements of songwriter music and rock'n'roll and is known for intense melodies and catchy rhythms. Information about the band can also be found at berlin.de, where their live performances are described as unforgettable.

Financial challenges of the castle in the air

However, the castle in the air, which acts as an event location, is under financial pressure - the annual costs for construction and dismantling amount to 100,000 euros. In order to meet these challenges, a petition is currently underway for the castle in the air to be allowed to remain permanently on Tempelhofer Feld. This initiative aims to preserve and promote Berlin's cultural diversity.

The problems faced by smaller cultural players like the Castle in the Air are not uncommon. There is often a lack of resources for an adequate digital presence. This reality has led to the development of the platform kulturdaten.berlin, which aims to create an open, digital infrastructure for cultural data in Berlin. Not only institutions, but also groups, collectives and solo artists can use this platform to publish their profiles and offers.

It remains to be hoped that Crimson Sunday's unique atmosphere and musical contribution will reach more people in order to keep the cultural scene in Berlin alive.
