Cottbus youth club converts Berlin: In between against war!
The 46th Theater meeting of the youth in Berlin brings creative talents together and offers young actresses a platform to address current social challenges. From May 30 to June 6, 2025, spectators can experience a variety of impressive productions. The event is all about the engagement of young artists who deal with topics such as war, peace, identity finding and social inequalities.
The youth club of the Piccolo Theater Cottbus, which appears "in between" with its in-house production, occurs today, June 4. This staging not only addresses peace, but also illuminates the political conflicts of our time, including the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Central questions dealt with in this piece are: How can peace be created? Do you have to fight for peace? And what does peace mean in a non -affected country? These and other topics are brought to life through their own texts by the theater makers and by selected literature from German post-war history, as rbb24.
variety of topics and productions
A total of eight groups were selected from over 60 nationwide applications to present their productions as part of the festival. The topics of the pieces listed are wide and range from dealing with personal fears in the neoliberal system to migration and activism. The festival was opened with "Project Fear" by the Yugenden Semble 24 from Berlin-Spandau, which deals with fears and challenges of youth in today's social context. The staging, which was performed on May 30, is now a lively example of the high relevance that the young artists repeatedly prove in their work.
The other remarkable productions include “Global Player” from the Bellevue di Monaco Theater, which deals with social policy issues in the context of professional football and addresses the associated social inequalities, as well as “Maschallah” from the young German National Theater Weimar, which deals with the experience of migration and war. All eight productions offer the young actors the opportunity to raise their voices and to put topics of social relevance to the fore, which is also supported by berlinerfestSpiele.de.
digital availability and supporting program
For those interested who could not be on site, all festival contributions are digitally available in the Berlin Festival media library from June 2. In addition to theater performances, the supporting program also includes concerts, readings, talks and parties that offer additional opportunities for exchange and reflection on the topics presented. The adaptation to politics in the theater, such as at the event "Dancing with our Neighbours", which stands in connection with participatory workshops by theaterderjungenweltleipzig.de underlines the variety of Festivals.
The youth theater meeting ends with a large final party that offers both participants and guests a solemn meeting. This event is not only a way to appreciate the creative achievements of the young artists, but also an important step to continue the dialogue on the topics dealt with in the theater and to recognize the importance of youth theater in today's social context.
