Commerzbank: works council warns of takeover and jobs

Commerzbank: works council warns of takeover and jobs
In a dramatic call that could hit waves, the powerful union representatives of ver.di and the general works council of Commerzbank AG have sharply asked the Federal Government to strictly reject the impending takeover by Unicredit! This decision could decisively influence the future of the traditional Commerzbank and its committed employees.
At a meeting in Cologne on Friday, September 20, 2024, the works councils urged the consequences of such a takeover. The chairman of the overall works council, Uwe Tchage, broke the silence a bit and made it clear: "We, as a general works council, are committed to the independence and future viability of our bank!" There is a lot at stake for the workforce, and the massive job cuts are already threatened on the horizon.
a strong commitment to independence
The fear of massive restructuring that could endanger the jobs is clearly articulated by Sascha Uebel, the deputy chairman of the overall works council: "According to our observation, a takeover by UniCredit would lead to a profound restructuring ..." In a clear sign of partnership, the works councils emphasize that the success of the past few years must not be released. They ask the federal government to work as an independent institute for the preservation of Commerzbank.
"We are fighting for good and fair working conditions!" Says ver.di chairman Frank Werneke, who vehemently campaigns for the rights of the employees. The takeover would not only be a step backwards for the employees, but also a risk of the stability of the German economy. In uncertain times, according to Werneke, it is indispensable that the bank remains independent to support the German middle class.
An important date is approaching
A crucial meeting is already at the corner: On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, the Finance Committee of the Bundestag will advise on the future of Commerzbank. The tension increases and the time is forced to make it clear to the union and the works council, that the workforce is behind them and will fight for their rights!
The location is explosive! Please send any questions to Frederik Werning on mobile number 0160 - 5575500.
