Charming drama at Kollwitzplatz: The miraculous world of Berlin's weekly market sellers

For five years, the author worked as a currywurst seller at the weekly market at Kollwitzplatz every Saturday. During this time he sold sparkling wine, fries with truffle mayo to tourists and new -rich people from Prenzlauer Berg. Despite the personal insight into this market, he realized that he was at a different social level than the rich parents who gave themselves the edge.

These wealthy parents, who are confronted once a week on the market by their formally subordinates, seem to be happy to feel "punished" by them. It is almost like a traditional masquerade in feudalism, in which you are aware of the penetration into this place and want to be punished for it.

The scenery on the market reflects the Côte d’Azur East Berlin-an environment in which everything seems to be revolving and superficial networking. But behind the facades of prosperity and arrogance, the true characters of those present show themselves, especially after a few bottles of Grauburgunder.

Despite the superficiality and complacency that the market may radiate, there is also a certain bizarre and warmth in this community. The every weekly encounters and collisions between the different layers are done as in a staging that is only intended for this special place.
