Westend in dialogue: solutions for the integration of refugees

An impressive meeting of decision -makers, associations and committed citizens found on 11. November 2024 ! The actor conference in Berlin-Westend had only one goal in mind: the exciting planning of major accommodation for refugee people! The initiators of this important meeting were the integration office of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, the dynamic district center Ulme35 and the settler association Eichkamp e.v.

The newly planned accommodations in Soorstraße and Cordesstraße will accommodate up to 3,000 refugee people by 2027! An enormous project that requires responsibility and a clever plan. The participants: Interior of the conference, passionately plunged into the discussion about the social and infrastructural challenges that these new institutions bring.

Together into the future

In lively working groups, the need for education, daycare centers, health care, infrastructure and leisure activities was discussed intensively! A wide range of topics that shows how complex the requirements in the community are. The results of these fertile discussions are the key to the design of a functioning neighborhood, which meets both the new residents: inside and the local citizens: inside.

The ideas and plans developed are now processed by the committed participants! These should flow into the official planning with the State Office for Refugee Matters (LAF). The newly founded working groups, which include the "AG Westend", can count on the support of the district office. The declared goal: Find sustainable solutions that take into account both the needs of the refugees and the existing social space.

As soon as the plans for the locations SOORstraße 80-82 and Cordesstraße are specified, the residents are also in demand! Information events are planned that enable citizens: inside, to actively contribute and to raise their voice.

"The concerns and challenges associated with this settlement are serious! We want to develop in close coordination with all the solutions involved that do justice to both the neighborhood and the new residents. The care and integration of refugee people are a task that can only succeed together."
