Election office extends opening times for postal voting on February 9, 2024

On Friday, February 9, 2024, citizens have the opportunity to apply for their postal voting and even exercise directly on site. The election office has extended the opening times at two locations to meet the voters. Specifically, it is the Rathaus Charlottenburg Rathaus and the Hohenzollerndamm. The ballroom on the 3rd floor of the Charlottenburg town hall and room 2000 of the Hohenzollerndamm civil engineering building are available to the voters for postal voting.

This extension of the opening times enables citizens to make use of the postal voting even after regular after -work. If you do not want to choose personally on site, you will find further information on the postal voting on the website of the election office and on the website of the state election management.

This option of postal voting and the extended opening times are a relief for many citizens, especially for professionals who do not manage to pass on a regular working day during the common opening hours. This strengthens the participation in the election and more people have the opportunity to give up their vote.

Historically, the postal vote is a comparatively modern option for voting. While letter elections were introduced in some countries in the 19th century, this form of election in Germany has only established itself in recent decades. With the expansion of the postal voting options, the authorities are open to new ways to facilitate participation in elections.

The following table lists the locations and opening times for postal voting:

| Location | Opening times |
| ——————————————- |
| Charlottenburg town hall | 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. |
| Hohenzollerndamm | 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. |

The expansion of opening times at these two locations gives voters more flexibility and the possibility of submitting their voice outside of regular working hours. The authorities thus show their interest in a high turnout and make it easier for citizens to participate in democratic processes.
