Appointment -free consultation for deaf people in the Berlin Citizens' Office - now participate!

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, deaf citizens in Berlin have the opportunity to take part in a special, free -time office time in the Wilmersdorfer Straße 46 citizens' office. This event takes place from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and is supported by a sign language interpreter. The aim of this initiative is to offer deaf people support in administrative services and to promote their equal participation in public life. This is confirmed by Arne Herz, the district councilor for civil services and social affairs, which emphasizes the importance of an inclusive and barrier -free administration. It is planned to offer this office time every first Wednesday of the month in order to increase accessibility and to meet the needs of the deaf community.

The project is in line with the goals of UN Convention on the Rights of Disabilities , which demands comprehensive access to public services. Article 9 of the convention obliges the signatory states to ensure equal access to the physical environment, means of transport as well as information and communication for people with disabilities. The promotion of participation in society is a central concern of this international agreement and aims to create a barrier -free environment.

Legal framework of accessibility

An important building block for the implementation of these goals in Germany is the Disabled Equality Act (BGG). It serves as the centerpiece for the production of comprehensive accessibility and defines accessibility as the accessibility and usability of information processing systems without special difficulty and without outside help. This includes, for example, that the bitv (barrier-free information technology regulation) states standards for the accessibility of internet offers of the federal administration, visually impaired, learning disabilities and Motorously restricted people to facilitate access.

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is a crucial instrument to promote access to the right to be secured for around 1 billion people with disabilities worldwide. Germany signed the convention on March 30, 2007 and has been obliged since January 1, 2009 to implement the rights specified in it. The Federal Government's national action plan aims to enable equal opportunities in education and the world of work as well as a self -determined life in a barrier -free society.

The vision of an inclusive society is promoted by these comprehensive measures, in which all people, regardless of their skills, can take part in social life on an equal footing. The coming consultation time is another step in this direction.
