New garden should cause cooling on hot days
The opening of a new "cooling garden" is imminent to offer the residents of the district an oasis of relaxation on hot days. The district councilor Detlef Wagner and the health planner Stephan Schikorra from the district office Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf will officially open the new garden in the neighborhood garden "Kliminssel Wilmersdorf" on Prinzregentenstraße corner of Waghäuseler Strasse on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
With a view to the increasingly hot summer, Berlin has now published heat protection plans and made public shelters available. The new cooling garden offers residents the opportunity to relax, read, meet, enjoy nature on hot days and to find out about the ecological and social importance of city green.
In the course of the opening event, two representatives of the "Klimentsel" initiative will report on the conversion of the former allotment area. In addition, Dr. Fred Meier from the Institute of Ecology at the Technical University of Berlin gave a lecture on the cooling function of allotment gardens in Berlin. He will also address central questions in urban climatology and present the results of long -term measurements of the air temperature in Berlin.
The new cooling garden is an important step to offer the citizens relax and cooling on hot days and at the same time to strengthen the awareness of the importance of green spaces in the city. The initiative to create such public spaces helps to improve the quality of life in urban areas and to promote a healthy environment for all citizens.
