Mobility Day and Family Festival: The future is celebrated at Bundesplatz!

On September 12th and 13th, 2025, Wilmersdorfer Bundesplatz will be transformed into a lively event location. As part of the mobility day and the family festival, the focus will be on the motto “From a transport hub to a place of the future”. This eventful event is supported by the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf Environment and Nature Conservation Office and aims to focus on sustainable mobility. District councilor Oliver Schruoffeneger will address welcoming words to visitors on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The streets at Bundesplatz will be closed to traffic during the event to create a safe and welcoming space for all participants.

Mobility Day will take place on Friday, September 12th from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Here, numerous initiatives at information stands and in creative exhibition formats deal with sustainable transport solutions. One attraction is the virtual bike ride through Berlin in 2037, which offers visitors a fascinating vision for the future of mobility. The Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office will also be on site and provide information about various areas of the district administration.

Family celebration and neighborly togetherness

On Saturday, September 13th, the family festival will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will focus on neighborly togetherness. To mark the first day of school for Berlin primary school students, a long picnic table is set up on the street. Groups are encouraged to register in advance at info@initiative-bundesplatz.de to take part in this special campaign. The ADFC circle tour arrives at Bundesplatz around 5 p.m., which offers another opportunity to fill the square with life.

The family festival will take place on the east side of the square between Wexstraße and Tübinger Straße and includes several attractions. Among other things, the “Winzerin am Bundesplatz” and “Tunnelblick am Bundesplatz” will be special highlights. In addition, the Bundesplatz presents itself with a market that includes music, food and various information and workshop stands. A pop-up open-air exhibition on Bundesallee will also be set up and is intended to highlight the successes of the Bundesplatz e.V. initiative, which has been promoting a lively and attractive Bundesplatz for 15 years.

The importance of the mobility transition

The mobility transition is a central topic that accompanies the event. It strives for new concepts and alternative means of transport in order to develop sustainable transport solutions. Cities and municipalities play a crucial role in implementing this turnaround. According to the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), innovative projects are needed to ensure better transport planning. The focus is on avoiding motorized individual transport and promoting environmentally friendly means of transport such as bicycles, local public transport and walking.

The mobility transition is to be supported by numerous measures, including the implementation of pedestrian zones, continuous cycle paths and the introduction of electrically powered minibuses for people with reduced mobility. The mFUND project, which, among other things, develops the NaMIx index to assess the sustainability of mobility in urban districts, shows how important precise data is for sustainable mobility planning. A digital twin created by artificial intelligence to balance traffic and parking space usage will help optimize the city's plans.

The upcoming events at Wilmersdorfer Bundesplatz offer residents and visitors the opportunity to actively participate in the dialogue about sustainable mobility and at the same time celebrate the community. Further details and information can be found on the Bundesplatz Initiative website and the [District Office Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf].

In summary, it can be said that the Mobility Day and the family festival at Bundesplatz are not only a celebration of the neighborhood, but also offer a platform for important discussions about the challenges and opportunities of the mobility transition.
