Including Premiere: First open German Lebenshilfe championship in Berlin

District City Councilor Heike Schmitt-Melz visits the opening ceremony of the first open German championship of Lebenshilfe in the Jahnsportpark in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The Sportclub Lebenshilfe (SCL) Berlin e.V. is the host of the event.

The Sportmetropolis Berlin comes up in the field of sports and inclusion from June 7th to 9th with the premiere of the open German life aid championship. Teams with almost 1000 athletes from all 16 federal states will initially complete a last training session in the capital and then in various sports, including football or athletics, to compete for medals.

The SCL establishes a new, cross -border and sustainable inclusive sporting event for people with intellectual impairment in Germany, which is then to take place every four years in another federal state. The focus is on the nationwide facilities of Lebenshilfe, but athletes from other structures of disabled and self-help are also welcome and registered. In addition to the sporting competitions, there will be a stage and supporting program.

The patron of the event is the ruling mayor Kai Wegener. Admission is free.

The open German life aid championship is an important event in the area of ​​inclusive sport, which offers people with mental impairment the opportunity to do sports and measure themselves with other athletes.
