Big celebration for the opening of the new Harald-Juhnke-Platz in Charlottenburg!

The new Harald-Juhnke-Platz in Berlin-Charlottenburg will be ceremoniously opened on September 29, 2025. The opening ceremony begins at 1 p.m. with a red carpet reception. The official program starts at 1:15 p.m. and includes a speech by the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner. There will also be greetings from District Councilor Judith Stückler and District Councilor Oliver Schruoffeneger. A varied program with several artistic contributions rounds off the event. Numerous guests from culture, politics, business and society are expected to take part in this special event, which honors the life's work of the important entertainer Harald Juhnke (1929–2005).

The square is located at the intersection of Kurfürstendamm, Grolmanstrasse and Uhlandstrasse, in the immediate vicinity of the Ku’damm stages. This location was officially named after discussions in other Berlin districts, publication in the official gazette and the expiry of the objection period on September 1, 2025. The Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district council had already voted in favor of the name on March 20, 2025, which underlines the importance of the entertainer in Berlin society.

A life's work is honored

Harald Juhnke was an iconic Berlin entertainer, known as an actor, singer and showmaster. His influence on Berlin's attitude to life and humor was particularly emphasized by district councilor Oliver Schruoffeneger. During his career, Juhnke celebrated great success in theatre, film and television. Critics praised his acting performances, especially in the television adaptation of the novel “Drinker” by Hans Fallada (1995). On stage he is famous, among other things, for his roles as Captain von Köpenick and Willie Clark in “Sonny Boys”. Juhnke began his career in the 1950s and was originally known as the “blue kid”.

Harald Juhnke's long-time manager, Peter Wolf, was pleased about the honor now being bestowed on his legendary life's work. However, Juhnke's career was not only characterized by success; Private problems, such as his alcohol addiction, meant that he had to spend his last years in a nursing home. Despite these challenges, his contribution to Berlin culture remains unforgotten and represents part of the city's identity.

A cultural center

Berlin is a cultural metropolis characterized by artists and creative companies. The city looks back on a long history and developed into a center of German-speaking culture and science in the 19th century. Today, Berlin continues to attract creatives and founders from all over the world and has become an important location for cultural events and festivals, including the Berlinale and the Festival of Lights. The cultural industry contributes significantly to the city's economy and has experienced remarkable growth over the years.

The Harald-Juhnke-Platz will not only be a reminder of an outstanding entertainer, but also of the lively and diverse culture that Berlin stands for and which it has shaped through personalities like Juhnke and many others.
