Gold status for Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf: Stadtgrün natural award!

In Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf there is a reason to celebrate: the district has reached the coveted gold level at the “Stadtgrün Natur” label. This award was awarded in Darmstadt on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is the only one to reach the gold level among all newly certified districts.

The district department has been relating to sustainable green care for years. An outstanding project is the use of plant cubes in Volkspark Jungfernheide to increase resilience and biodiversity. In addition, Gotland sheep in the Wilmersdorf stadium help with the care of the green areas. The cultivated areas include the Volkspark Jungfernheide, the Georg-Kolbe-Hain and the Ruhwaldpark.

The award "Stadtgrün Natural" is every three years by the German Environmental Aid and the Alliance "Municipalities for Biological Diversity e.V." in three quality levels. This label not only enables the district to apply for additional funding, but also makes the commitment to the biological diversity visible.

Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is proud to be the first Berlin district to apply for the “Stadtgrün nature” label. The district's green and parks extend over 323 hectares, including cemeteries and street accompanying green. This success shows the commitment of the district for more nature in the city.
