Memorial event on the 80th anniversary of the uprising against Hitler: Narrow laying on the Steinplatz
memory of July 20, 1944 - an act of resistance
On July 20, 1944, a bombattary shook the world on the "leader headquarters" in East Prussia. Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg bravely carried out the campaign, which, however, missed Adolf Hitler and let him survive. Stauffenberg was executed the same night, but his act of resistance remains unforgettable to this day.
This day is a symbol of German resistance to the rule of terror of National Socialism and Adolf Hitler. It will go down in the history books as a "uprising of conscience" to honor the courage of those who opposed injustice and oppression.
As a sign of commemoration, district councilor Arne Herz will put down a wreath on the memorial stone for the victims of National Socialism on Steinplatz together with district councilor Judith Stückler on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10 a.m. . As early as 8 a.m., district councilor Arne Herz will take part in the service in the Plötzensee memorial to commemorate the victims of the regime.
District City Councilor Arne Herz emphasizes the importance of this day for the memory of the past to protect the freedom of both the individual and the entire people. He calls on to defend and live the democratic values and fundamental rights as they are anchored in the Basic Law every day. This act of resistance should remind us of always acting as a person and standing out against injustice, as Marcel Reif formulated in a commemoration lesson in the German Bundestag: "Be a person!"
July 20, 1944 will always be a day that reminds us of how important it is to protect freedom and democratic values and to stand up for them. May the actions of Stauffenberg and other resistance fighters will never be forgotten and always serve as a reminder, to stand up for a fair and free society.
