Remembrance of Mete Eksi: Removal of the wreath at Adenauerplatz
On November 13, 2024, a moving sign of memory will be set! The district office Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf will lay down a fresh arrangement at the memorial on Adenauerplatz, on the infamous corner of Kurfürstendamm and Lewishamstrasse.
Why, ask yourself? Quite simply, we commemorate the tragic fate of Mete Eksi, which was involved in a terrible discussion on October 27, 1991. A young student who was only a victim of violence and bought fatal injuries. In the place that is associated with so much pain, he was thought of with a memorial stone five years after his death.

A heartbreaking inscription is emblazoned on the memorial stone: "Mete Eksi, born in 1972, died on November 13, 1991 from the serious injuries that he suffered in this place in a violent argument between Berlin young people. Mutual respect and the will to protect his life." This sentence is not only a tribute to Mete, but also an urgent call to all of us, to work for peace and understanding among people.
Mete Eksi is more than just a name in history; It symbolizes the countless young people who have to suffer from violence. His fate should warn us how important mutual respect is in our society.
This honorable memory will take place on behalf of his companions and friends next Wednesday. Let us pause and think about the meaning of Metes story. It is time to truly take the teachings from the past so that our cities become places of peace!
