Celebrate for Charlottenburg: The Chronicle of Dressel rediscovered!
On Friday, December 6, 2024, a special event will take place in the Administrative Information Service (VIZ) of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office. Katja Baumeister-Frenzel and Thomas Wolfes present the "oldest chronicle of Charlottenburg" by Johann Christian Gottfried Dressel from 1816/17, which was published in a transcribed version on the occasion of the pastor's 200th anniversary of death. Dressel, a formative figure in city history, documented Charlottenburg's development from 1705 to 1817 in his chronicle. Wolfes will give interesting insights into Dressel's life and influences, while Baumeister-Frenzel will read out from his writings. This presentation is part of an honorable festival program that is reminiscent of Dressel's work, and takes place in the Charlottenburg town hall, Otto-Suhr-Allee 100.
The festival program for the honor of Johann Christian Gottfried Dressel, who was a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran community in Charlottenburg from 1778 until his death in 1824, is organized by several institutions. The Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office, the Luisen-Kirchengemeinde, the Kulturgut and Visitberlin association lead the celebrations that are enriched with an exhibition on Dressel's life and work as well as historical writings and city models. The exhibition, which was opened on October 16, 2024 by District Mayor Kirstin Bauch, also shows Dressel's original manuscripts. The entire event, including readings and lectures on Dressel's influence on education and social care in the city, is open to the public free of charge, such as Wertheim24.de reported.
The chronicle is available in the viz for 20 euros and the associated exhibition will be shown by December 31, 2024. This not only keeps the heir to Dressel alive, but also recognized its importance for the city of Charlottenburg. He reformed the school system, introduced modern teaching methods and founded institutions for the needy, which made him an important reformer of his time, such as
