Extended weekend opening times in Berlin libraries from January 2024

The Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf City Library has announced that the extended weekend opening times from January 6 to February 25, 2024 will return. A total of four libraries of the heat will be open on weekends, but the service offer will be restricted because there will be no specialist staff on site.

The Heinrich Schulz Library, the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer library and the Ingeborg Bachmann library offer the opportunity to borrow and return media via machines. The Halemweg district library only enables the stay and the benefits of the media on site.

The exact weekend opening times and service offers from the individual libraries are as follows:
-Heinrich-Schulz library with music department, Otto-Suhr-Allee 98, 10585 Berlin: Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., service: loan and return via the machines.
-Dietrich-Bonhoeffer library, Brandenburgische Str. 2, 10713 Berlin: Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., service: loan and return via the machines.
-Ingeborg-Bachmann library, Nehringstr. 10, 14059 Berlin: Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., service: loan and return via the machines.
- District library Halemweg, Halemweg 18, 13627 Berlin: Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., service: stay and media use.

It is pointed out that advice and use of internet and PC workstations will not be possible during the extended opening times. Borrowing and returning the media, with the exception of Tolinos, Tonies, Tonie boxes and contrasts, can only be done via the machines.

These extended opening times offer citizens the opportunity to access the offer of the city library even on weekends. Especially for pupils and students who have little time on weekdays to visit the library, this is a welcome opportunity to expand their learning and research options.

Historically, libraries have played an important role as knowledge centers in the communities. The expansion of the opening times helps to continue this inheritance and to promote access to education and knowledge for all citizens.
