Parents demand school road: traffic authority remains skeptical

Drama for the way to school! In Wilmersdorf, the discussion about the temporary Schulstraße in Pfalzburger Strasse cooks up! Transport and civil engineering city councilor Oliver Schruoffenger gets to the point: The expert opinion on the safety of the students of the Nelson-Mandela elementary school shows that there is no acute need for action. Nevertheless- the daily traffic flows at the Holz and Bringing times are a real risk for the students!

Why? Because many parents, who often have long travel paths, drive by car. An explosive mix of a lack of transport organization and pressing parents leads to the endangerment of our children. A call to the parent representative in March 2024 got the matter rolling! Consistent discussions with the road traffic authority were held and the parents were justified.

The affected parents called for a significant improvement in the traffic situation! The district reacted quickly. A permanent one-way regulation and new stops-the so-called "Kiss and Go" zones were planned! This should make the way to school safer. But the district office also observed the feasibility: a temporary school road seemed to be unreasonable for many parents!

However, parenthood disagreed. In an email dated July 8, 2024, they clearly expressed their displeasure: "We personally agreed to set up a temporary school road!" An open promise followed by constant doubts on the part of the district office. An affront that cannot be left behind - many felt insulted!

After heated talks, the district office decided to respect the parents' wishes despite all the concerns! But now the district office is pilloried by parts of parenthood as a scapegoat for the challenges of the challenges. Oliver Schruoffeneger has a clear opinion: "The decision about the model came from the parents, not from us!"

Apart from the heated debate, the planning for structural measures is far from off the table! "We declare the trial Schulstraße to fail, but we are ready to resume our suggestions," says Schruoffeneger. A disgrace for those who had actually hoped for their children's safety!

The district office remains under pressure and the parents agree: the safety of the children must no longer be a political issue! It will be tight for everyone involved!
